Mount Meru

Overview

Mount Meru is in the heart of Arusha National Park just 50 miles west of Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s a massive volcano reaching 14,980 feet (4,565 meters). This trek serves as an ideal warm-up for Mt. Kilimanjaro due to its altitude acclimatization and hiking distances. This trek is also geared toward hikers that prefer fewer crowds and a challenging ascent.

Climate

Meru has a hot, arid climate. Temperatures are fairly uniform through the year. Daytime temperatures are around 32°C/90°F, and at night temperatures fall to about 17°C/63°F.

The Park can be accessed by road or air.
Road: From Arusha town it is 50km to Mount Meru.
Air: Since Mount Meru is near by Arusha Town, getting there by flight become an optional

Flora and Fauna

Mount Meru’s slopes are home to an impressive range of wildlife.

You will cross through different climate zones on your safari, such as  grasslands, tropical rainforest, moorlands, desert,  ice and snow at the top.

On the way to your trekking, you will have a chance to witness more than 400 species of bird, buffalos, antelopes, white colobus monkeys, and leopards.

Mount Meru treks combine a conventional trek with a walking safari through a diverse variety of ecosystems.

Waterfalls

An interesting and enjoyable day trip hike into the stunning view surrounding the foothills of Mount Meru. A steep but well manageable incline towards the valley and into falls and a climb back up hill for an impressive and scenic walk back to the  town.
